By now, members have received their renewal notices. We would be grateful if you could maintain your membership at the same level as last year or even increase it. And if you are not yet a member, please consider becoming one.
Here’s a secure link to the membership page on our web site: https://www.orangecovahist.org/membership.
Or you can send your payment made out to OCHS at 130 Caroline St.,
Orange,VA 22960 or, better yet, come by in person to the Research Center (MF, 1:00-5:00) and claim your free copy of The Fannie Hume Diary of 1862.
Looking Forward to the Next 60 years
As we close out 2025 and 60 years since the founding of our Society, this year has been filled
with accomplishment.
• Topping the list, our members and friends donated $64,000 toward the replacement of the deteriorated roof over our Sandra and William H. Speiden Auditorium.
• No less significant was the first conferral of the Frank S. Walker, Jr., Historic Preservation
Award to the eminent local historian Frank Walker.
• Our monthly electronic bulletin, the Oracle, kept members engaged and informed.
• In 2025, we presented ten informative historical programs, many of which were livestreamed.
• We also produced ten History-to-Go episodes which you can view by clicking this link:
• And our partnership with public school teachers continued by providing access to our
abundant resources and conducting historical tours for both teachers and students.
We are also excited that our dues-paying members grew to 271 in 2025, and our non-dues
Educator and Honorary memberships brought our membership total to 331.
These accomplishments could not happen without your partnership and generosity. Thank
You!
Our Current Priorities
• Purchase new computer(s) & monitor workstation(s) for public and staff use
• Continue cataloging the large volume of Orange Review negatives
• Continue digitizing portions of our documents collection as appropriate
• Adding digital content tothe members-only section of our website
• Increasing the number of engaged volunteers
None of these good things happen without your direct financial support. Help us ensure
that our Society continues on its strong financial footing and delivers on its mission to the
community.
